Course Description:
This course explains the trait of high sensitivity also referred to as Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) - which as many as 50% of clients seeking psychotherapy may have, research on the trait, best practices and interventions for psychotherapy with highly sensitive people (HSPs), and treatment planning for highly sensitive clients.
Instructor Qualifications:
Ivy Griffin is a highly sensitive person (hsp), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist # 51714 in California, CAMFT Certified Clinical Supervisor, and Owner & Director of Thrive Therapy & Counseling - a group practice of 11 therapists. She has specialized with HSP clients for over 10 years, provides ongoing clinical supervision and consultation to associate and licensed therapists who work with HSPs, and she worked as an educational trainer at the University of California, Davis (UCD) for 6 years providing trainings on the prevention of harassment, discrimination, and sexual violence to students, staff, and faculty.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to identify at least 3 examples of the trait of high sensitivity.
Participants will be able to name the 4 components of the DOES acronym.
Participants will be able to explain why it is important for psychotherapists to know best practices for working with Highly Sensitive People (HSPs).
Participants will be able to name 3 interventions to improve their work with HSPs.
Participants will create a treatment plan for working with a highly sensitive client.
